Diamond rollers

A diamond roller is a rotating dressing tool that is used mainly in series production.
It is a metal body studded with diamond grains in different  ways.
This can be done with positive or negative plating as well as sintering.
These rollers usually exactly follow the part profile to be produced and can transfer this to the wheel both in reverse rotation and in synchronization (conditioning). The diamond rollers in dressing applications are always driven.
This is different in crushing applications, where the roller is usually carried along by the wheel by friction.

The diamond grains are applied to different (electrically conductive) metal bases in an electrochemical process, through embedding into a matrix that consists mostly of nickel. In positive plating, the metallic base body is prepared in the final diameter less the precise size of the diamond grain. It is anchored to the roller body with an electroplated nickel bond. The highest projecting tips of individual grains are then ground off.

In the negative method, a negative form of the roller is manufactured, on which the diamond grains are scattered using adhesive. The negative form is then compound-filled with a metallic bond. Once it has cooled, the negative form is cut open and the finished diamond profile is placed on a steel roller body.
